[01:02] Welcome. It’s just going to be me today. This episode is really just meant to be a primer. Explain who I am and what this podcast is all about. So I’ll start by introducing myself. My name is Nate Newman. I’m a 27 year old musician and teacher in beautiful Columbus, Ohio. Besides music, I also keep a dedicated yoga practice and I do some martial arts as well. So each of these three things take some time and energy. And since I have parallel interests, a good chunk of my day is spent practicing from my experience. I can say the practice is a solitary thing and I think because it’s usually a solitary thing, it doesn’t get talked about that much and what I’m getting at, uh, what I’ve gotten out of practicing, it goes beyond the skills. That’s the good stuff. A lot of my patients are humility or any sort of virtue that I can claim at least a little bit of credit over that and having a good mindset about how I approach things.
[02:03] Now that’s because of practice. That’s because I’ve had those experiences of sucking at things for a long time and then boosting myself up to improve or develop what I’m talking about really. Doesn’t matter what you practice, if you’re investing in yourself, in your pursuit, you’re getting something else out of it. So that’s what brought me to this podcast. I’m lucky enough that I know some really great talented people and I want to sit down. We can hash out what they’re doing in their practices. Each episode, I’m going to sit down, I’m going to interview anyone who’s invested their time and themselves into a skill. So this could be an artist, musician, writer, athletes, dancers. We’re going to talk about what’s universal, what they’ve gotten out of their practice besides the skill, but also a lot of practical and esoteric kind of stuff because I’m a behind the scenes junkie and I think that stuff’s really cool.
[02:56] My hope is that you can use what you hear in these conversations, apply it to your own life, but the time you can listen to this episode is going to be January and a lot of us may have some New Year’s resolutions. We might be talking about picking up new skills or getting back into something we were already doing. And a lot of us will think about the finish line, what that’s going to be like when we finally can do it. But we’re not thinking about the grind, the grind that it takes to get there. But what this podcast is really about is what’s inspiring about the grind. So on that note, I’m going to sign off and let you guys go and listen to those conversations.
